Birth Trauma
Birth trauma counselling supports women (and their partners) who feel that they have had a traumatic birth experience. It is often the case that women feel they need to discuss in further depth what has happened to them, in order to come to terms with the labour and birth.
Our counsellors are trained to support women through this difficult time. Helping them to understand and cope with the traumatic experience. And lessening the likelihood of post traumatic stress disorder (which can often develop after such trauma).
During the counselling sessions you will be free to discuss anything that you feel is impacting upon you. And together with your counsellor will look to develop coping mechanisms, and ways to move on from the experience.
Postnatal Depression
Sometimes low feelings can go a little beyond the baby blues, and women feel that they need someone to give them added support, through the initial period of change when a new baby enters their life. Postnatal depression is very common, affecting approximately 10% of new mothers, and with the right support and self-help mechanisms women will make a full recovery.
We can offer a supportive counsellor who can talk through these feelings with you and help you to learn coping mechanisms and strategies. At the same time one of our leading counsellors also offers peer support alongside the counselling, where she has personal experience of postnatal depression, and therefore fully understands how it feels.
A tailored course of counselling for you can take place with one of our trained and police checked counsellors in your own home, with your partner or friend present. Alternative, you can come to our offices in Coulsdon. Women often find it easier to talk surrounded by their own familiar belongings, and with a new baby it can often be easier to relax at home. However the choice is entirely yours, as your comfort and wellbeing is paramount.
Prices start from £30/1hr session (approximately 50mins will be spent in counselling).
